๐ข๐๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ณ๐ผ๐๐ฟ ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ฒ-๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ผ ๐น๐ฒ๐๐๐ผ๐ป๐, plus live forum support, we will explore the current evidence for prehistoric textiles with a focus on Northern Europe, whilst getting to grips with tools, techniques, and practical projects that are both illustrative of early evidence and relevant to modern craft practice. The required materials are fairly easy to obtain, and substitutions will be suggested. ๐ฌ๐ผ๐ ๐๐ถ๐น๐น ๐ป๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐๐ผ ๐ผ๐ฏ๐๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป: โ A small piece of antler, bone, or a piece of close-grained wood to make a needle and awl with. โ Some fine string. โ Flax or hemp fibres (other foraged fibres like nettle. โ Dogbane or similar will be fine, too. โ Some lime bast or raffia, a small amount of clay (self-hardening is fine). โ A stick or two, and a small amount of sheepโs wool. Anything else is amongst typical household supplies. By the end of the course, you will have a working understanding of when and how key textile technologies arrived, the principles of working with some of these techniques, and insights into how this informs modern craft practice and textile production today. ๐ก๐ผ ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐ธ๐ป๐ผ๐๐น๐ฒ๐ฑ๐ด๐ฒ ๐ถ๐ ๐ฎ๐๐๐๐บ๐ฒ๐ฑ, and there will be a handout with key points, references, and suggested further reading for those wanting to explore further. This course works well in parallel with my recent ๐ก๐ฒ๐๐๐น๐ฒ ๐๐ถ๐ฏ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐ผ๐๐ฟ๐๐ฒ, which is also hosted on this site, but does not repeat specific projects from it, and can reinforce skills learnt here. ๐ข๐ป๐น๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ ๐๐ผ๐๐ฟ๐๐ฒ ๐๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฒ๐๐ & ๐ฆ๐๐ฝ๐ฝ๐ผ๐ฟ๐: - 365 days of access - Downloadable resources - Tutor support via course forum (Discord)
