Hard Sole Moccasin Course

Nothing is more luxurious than a pair of shoes custom made for your feet! These beautiful moccasins will mould to the shape of your foot over time for a perfect fit. They are tough wearing while still being soft and lightweight.

Over the course of two days, you will make a pattern from each individual foot as they can vary in size and shape. Then sew your soft, fat-tanned leather uppers to a tough, vegetable tanned sole, with the option to add a rubber Vibram style outer sole. The rubber outer sole will extend the life span of your shoes significantly if you plan to use them on hard surfaces such as concrete.

The style is based on the brilliant rawhide soled moccasins used by native peoples from the Great Plains and parts of Southwestern North America. However, we will modify the sole materials to make them better adapted to the European climate and modern walking surfaces.

All the course materials will be provided, as will detailed instruction during the course and comprehensive course notes to take away with you, should you want to make a second pair!

It is helpful to have some basic sewing skills before the course! Brush up on Whip stitch (also called Overcast stitch) and a running stitch.

*Please be aware.......This course is taught in English, but I will have a French translator there as my assistant!
